Sewing is close to becoming a lost art. It is one of the oldest textile arts where early humans used bone needles to sew animal skins for clothing and shelter. Today, sewing can be performed by hand or with a machine.

I am happy to continue this art by teaching sewing classes, beginners to advanced, and youth to adults. The location of the classes is the Stone County Library in Mountain View, Arkansas.

Below you find brief descriptions of what I teach and the available classes at this time. You have to enroll to attend.

What Will You Learn In Class?

Beginning Sewing Machine Class

In the Beginning Class, the students learn the basics such as:

  • Getting to know your machine
  • Threading your machine
  • Filling a bobbin
  • Sewing lines and seams
  • Ironing
  • Hand sewing
  • Cutting fabric
  • Sewing easy items

The beginning class is for anyone who is just starting on their machine journey. You will be responsible for bringing your machine and supplies. For ages 12 to adults.

Beginning-Intermediate Sewing Machine Class

This class is the step from beginning to intermediate. For ages 16 to adults.

Intermediate Sewing Machine Class

In the Intermediate Class, the students know how to use their sewing machine, so they continue their learning of:

  • Reading and adjusting a pattern
  • Installing a zipper
  • Making darts
  • Making buttonholes
  • Hand and machine hems
  • Garment construction
  • Measuring for adjustments

The intermediate class is for students who know how to use the machine. We will be creating apparels, and you will be responsible for bringing your machine and supplies. For ages 16 and above.

Alterations Class

In the Clothes Alterations Class, the students learn how to correct purchased clothing that does not fit properly. Clothes are expensive, so learn how to:

  • Rip out seams
  • Shorten jean and pants
  • Reduce or let out waistlines
  • Shorten shoulders and sleeve
  • Replace zippers
  • Measuring for adjustments

Advanced Sewing Class

In the Advanced Sewing, the students have mastered the general art of sewing and wish to continue their sewing skills. The seamstress creates high-quality, professional-looking projects. Learn how to:

  • Measuring bodies for custom creations
  • Selecting and working with different fabrics
  • Sketching ideas on paper
  • Transforming patterns
